Above Ground Pool Winter Cover
Do You Need a Winter Swimming Pool Cover for Your Above Ground Pool?
One of the messiest jobs is cleaning out the pool of bugs and dirt and leaves come spring time. You may
want to consider an above ground pool winter cover to avoid the clean up we all dread. Here is why you want to keep
water in your pool and therefore cover it. Above ground pool covers can loose their shape and form if they do not
have the pressure of the water inside, so you want to keep the water in the pool, drained just below the skim
opening. You then want to cover it to protect your water and also serve as a safety net to keep children and pets
out. There is a rating on pool covers called the scrim number, the higher the number, the tighter the weave. So you
get a better quality cover with a higher scrim number.
Medium Duty Winter Cover - This cover is rated medium because of the scrim rating we mentioned
above. Still a durable cover, most come with an 8 plus year warranty and will filter most everything out from
getting into your water. The big difference is the thickness, and therefore the life span of this cover. If budget
is an issue, go for the medium duty winter cover.
Heavy Duty Winter Cover - This is the Cadillac of pool covers. The heavy duty is made of the best
and thickest pool cover material available. They come with 12 year plus warranty and they have the highest scrim
number rating. There are a bit bulky to store come summer so make sure you have space for that. They never fold
back to the size in which they arrived.
Mesh Winter Covers - The mesh cover will keep out all but the fine silt and particles. Much
less expensive than a solid material cover like the medium or heavy duty, the mesh is designed to catch the big
stuff. The also have a 5-10 year warranty, depending on the manufacturer. The mesh cover serves well as a safety
cover also, keeping children or pets from entering the pool surface. If large debris and safety are primary
concerns, consider the least expensive mesh cover.
Winter cover Seal For Above Ground Pools - The seal is a large rubber band that goes around the
top of your pool, and covers over the space between your pool top and the pool cover. Generally 12 inches to 18
inches in width, the seal band will keep any possible debris from entering the pool from under the covers edge.
Above Ground Pool Leaf Net cover - Each spring your pool cover will be full of heavy, wet and
rotting leaves and debris. The leaf net cover goes over top of your winter pool cover and makes removing the heavy
debris an ease. Use the cover to remove the heavy wet leaves before the freeze, to keep the weight off your cover,
then use the leaf net again in the spring to remove any debris before you open your pool. The leaf nets carry a 4
plus year warranty and are often made of polyethylene.
