Above Ground Pool Cover
Deciding on your first Above Ground Pool Cover can be a bit overwhelming because there are many on the market to
choose from..
We examine 4 types of pool covers and hopefully give you enough information to make your decision with.
The main thing to know (before you shop for your Above Ground Pool Cover) is your objectives. Do you want to keep
the heat in? keep the leaves and debris out? reduce your chemical usage?, These are all things to consider when
shopping. Please remember, cheap pool covers are not always the best way to go.
Your Above Ground Pool cover can accomplish one of two things, or both. Your cover can reduce overall pool costs
(pool supplies, chemicals, heating costs) by keeping the water and heat in and the debris out. Your cover can
also provide safety and security by keeping animals and loved ones safe near the water. Some people successfully
find one pool cover to accomplish both goals and others will have two pool covers, each with a unique purpose.
Above Ground covers generally fall under Solar covers, Safety covers, Debris nets and Winter covers.
Selecting the right Above Ground Pool cover for you.
Above Ground Pool Winter Cover - The number 1 toughest pool cover is those with rip stop
fabrics and a heat shield coating. this coating also helps slow algae growth. You pay the most for this cover. get
the best warranty and will have the least worries. Normally this is your winter cover, however there are designs
for summer use, while you are using your pool.
Above Ground Pool Solar Covers - Here is a cover that meets both objectives. solar covers capture
and retain the heat from the sun and also keep the heat in your pool. Think of them as a one way valve. The heat
can come in from the top, but not escape from underneath. The Above Ground Pool Solar Cover will also keep leaves
and dirt and bugs out of your pool. Your pump will work less if you keep dirt away from it. The best feature I
think of my solar pool cover is that it keeps my water in. It helps stop evaporation so I don't have to top up my
water levels as often. A good universal solution.
Above Ground Pool Safety Covers - Safety needs to be your number one concern. A safety cover is
specifically a cover that can hold the weight of a child or animal if they walk on it. They must meet government
regulations and must be attached to the pool decking. A safety cover is generally custom fit, sealed tight around
the edges so no one can get underneath it and is made of strong materials. As you might have guessed, a proper
Above Ground Pool Safety Cover is the most expensive type of cover.
Debris Nets - Often interchangeable with the term Leaf Net, this type of net is designed to
keep "stuff" out of your pool. They are light weight construction, can be solid or netted materials. A debris net
is often laid over top of your solar cover or winter cover and gives you an easy way to remove rain soaked leaves
and debris so it does not soil and deteriorate your main cover. In areas with lots of trees or fall out from
vegetation, a debris net is helpful.
We touched on the four goals of your above ground pool cover. If you remember the purpose of each cover, you
will be more successful with your purchase. Purchasing a cheap pool cover is not the best way to go. You will only
pay 25% less or so that for good quality covers, yet you will have to replace it twice as often. Good luck with
your Above Ground Pool Cover purchase.
